Aushiker | November 15, 2009 1:38 pm

I managed to get along to the Tour de Perth to watch a bit of the racing in Stage 2 – Perry Lakes Loop.  I watched a bit of the racing on Oceanic Drive and then a bit later at the corner of Oceanic Drive and West Coast Highway.

Below is a few photos from the two viewing spots whilst the full gallery of 47 photos can be found by clicking here.

Perry Lakes Drive, 12.45pm at the Start/Finish line

Glam it up for a chance to win a bike or bike accessories

Glamour Push Live initiative was launched in September 2009 with the aim of encouraging more women to ride. Women are under-represented in cycling, yet there is such a potential to incorporate cycling into their everyday activities. Most trips in Perth are short, so glam it up when you ride to work, your local café or on an inspiring scenic route.

Special announcement!  The Glamour Push Live fashion competition part of the Scody Tour De Perth festival finale is open to everyone: men, women, children or their bikes!

Dress yourself up or your bike in any fashion you like (for example glamour, funny or outrageous – whatever mood you are in on the day)!

At 12.00pm an announcement will be made inviting anyone and everyone to nominate themselves to walk in the fashion parade. At 12.45 participants will strut their stuff down the Finish line of the Scody Tour de Perth Course at Perry Lakes Drive.

This event is proudly supported by Bikewest and the Town of Cambridge and adults, children and bikes are eligible to win one of three major prizes.

First prize is a bike kindly donated by Wembley Cycles. Second and Third prizes are backpacks packed with cycling accessories including a bike pump, mini towel, cycle computer and lights, donated by Bikewest and the Town of Cambridge.

See you at Perry Lakes Drive on Sunday, 15 November!

For more information about this fashion competition contact Jillian Woolmer at Bikewest on 9216 8306, email jillian.woolmer@transport.wa.gov.au or Lisa Wheatley of Town of Cambridge on 9347 6000 email lwheatley@cambridge.wa.gov.au

Cycling gets a favourable mention in The West …

Aushiker | July 14, 2009 11:01 am

The West Australian newspaper under new editorial leadership has published a favourable story on cycling in Western Australia.  It is nice to see the paper taking a positive stance.  The full article by Stephanie Painter, Social cyclists drive a WA bike boom, and related photo of some of the riders from the South Perth Cycle Club can be found here.

The article quotes Neil Manning, CEO of Cycling WA”

“Cycling is like the new golf in that a lot of events take part on a regular basis whereby someone wants to enter an event and gets their friends, work buddies and business associates to make up a team,” he said.

“It is very much a networking sport, not just the elite high-performance side.”

… More people are expected to compete in the Tour de Perth in November than in last year’s event.

Interesting the BTAWA does not get a mention, with the article seemingly focusing more on the sporting aspect rather than including the commuting aspect. Still a positive start to better reporting in The West.
