Product Safety Recalls Australia and Dirt Works Australia Pty Ltd, the Australian Surly distributor have announced a recall of all Surly Long Haul Truckers sold between February 2006 and August 2010.

The reported defect is that some Surly Long Haul Trucker touring bicycles may not have been fitted with a brake cable catch hook to the cantilever brakes. This means according to the recall notice, that if a failure of the brake cable occurred it could result in the brake cable impacting the tyre which in turn may potentially lead to loss of control and possible injury. If you own a Surly Long Haul Trucker sold between February 2006 and August 2010 you should contact the store where you purchased the bike or contact Dirt Works Australia Pty Ltd directly via email at warranty@dirtworks.com.au or via phone at (02) 9679-8400.
The fix is a set of brackets as shown in the photo above. Whilst I have received a set of the brackets I haven’t bothered to fit them to my Surly Long Haul Trucker.
